Fall of the Wall

The East Germans first partied on top of the Wall on the night of November 9, 1989. This portfolio shows the atmosphere and faces surrounding the very beginning of the fall of the wall starting with the morning of November 10. There was a West Berlin wall and an East Berlin wall (no graffiti), and very large field of guard towers and dogs in the heavily mined space between these two, the "no man's land" where over the years many came to lose their lives.
Note: In order to photograph and witness this event unfolding, one must have virtually already been in Berlin at the time. There was no lodging to be had and except for the luckiest members of the world press, flights were unavailable.
